Are NCERT books enough to prepare for entrance exams?
We humans, face some sort of examination at some point in our life. This examination can be anywhere- at school, work or even in our life. This is important so that we know about our progress in life and to learn many aspects of life. We need to prepare for any type of examination.
Preparation requires hard work, dedication, patience, discipline. Preparation will not be successful until we actually prepare. There will be no change if we just think to prepare and not put anything into action.
Children appear for many exams in their student life. This examination has always been important in their life. Some may get good marks while some may not.
The ones who get good marks, study in the best institution and then work in the best place. This does not mean that the ones who get low marks are not intelligent. Marks alone do not determine one’s intelligence and success in life. Marks are just a medium. What is important here is that what one learned by appearing in the examination.
All examinations need preparation. For this preparation, the right books must be chosen. Different schools prescribe different books. Each type of book has its own importance. It depends on the students how they use the book to prepare for the examination.
NCERT text books are available everywhere. Most of the schools use NCERT books because of their many important features. They cost less, are light in weight, easy to career, easily available. They have to the point information and enough illustrations, explanations, and examples.
They are known to help the students understand the basic concepts of all subjects easily and clearly. NCERT questions are helpful not only for students in school but also for the candidates prepare for different entrance and competitive exams.
Even though NCERT book has so many positive sides and will benefit the students, they should know how to prepare from it. If the candidates are using NCERT books to prepare for entrance exams, they should find out the syllabus first. Then decide to study subject wise or class wise.
It is important to make notes while studying. They will be helpful later on. But they should know how to make notes. It does not mean that the entire book is put into notes. First, they must find out important points and make notes on them. It does not mean there will be lengthy notes.
Short notes will be easy to understand and remember. Notes should be made according to the different topics with proper headings. If the content is lengthy and concept based, tables and diagrams can be made. This will help them to remember even the lengthiest and toughest content. They must regularly follow the notes.
NCERT books have to the point content and enough illustration and examples. This helps them to understand the concepts clearly.
The candidates should follow the NCERT questions thoroughly. They must also follow old NCERT question papers as well since entrance exam questions are similar to NCERT questions. If they follow it, they will be able to attempt any type of question. But are NCERT books enough to prepare for the entrance exam?
One should not depend only on NCERT books. Yes, one can study the majority from them but should not be dependent fully. NCERT books help to clear the basic questions. But some of the entrance exams have a different level of questions. So, for that, it is necessary to refer to other books.
Some of the concepts in the NCERT books need more explanation; in that case, one has to check from additional books. Entrance exams have questions which are more than the concepts. So, it is necessary to know the extra information. But many additional books will create confusion. NCERT books explain each topic thoroughly, thus, increasing the student’s logical thinking capability. The questions in NCERT books help to develop student’s problem-solving capability.
One should divide the books properly. If a student follows two to three books thoroughly, that will be enough for the examination. Studying from other books will help one to know the topic from another approach. Even if the candidate refers fewer books, they must be thorough with that.
Candidates love NCERT books as it is very simple to understand. The texts are explained in a simple yet detailed pattern with adequate examples and facts. The pictures and diagrams help in growing interest in reading. Moreover, the books are cheap and widely available in all languages on different subjects. The books have questions that frequently appear in examinations.
Proper preparation for any type of examination will help a person to score well. It does not depend on which types of books were used to study but how did the candidate study for the examination. A person can prepare from an ample amount of books. But towards the end have they really learned something? If the candidate can answer this question, then they know the result of their preparation.

[ EAN – Rule]
The total number of electrons linked with central metal atom or ion in a complex plus the electrons donated by the ligand is known as effective Atomic Number.
Sidgwick suggested that the central atom or ion will accept electron pairs from ligands till the EAN of the metal equalize itself with the atomic number of the nearest noble gas.
EAN= Z – x + 2nL
Z= Atomic number of the metal in the complex
x = Oxidation state of the metal in complex
